Home Education in brief
Surrey museums and galleries are inspirational places for families to enjoy learning together. There are opportunities for all ages across a range of subjects, themes and skills. If you’re looking for something tailored, many offer programmes linked to curriculum subjects such as Art, History and STEM which can enrich your individual family learning or be organised as group sessions if you are in a network.
With over 40 museums, galleries and heritage sites, you will have plenty to explore. You can enjoy indoor and outdoor places, woodland trails, castles and grottos. You’ll find some absolute treasures along the way in the collections as you discover more together about the county of Surrey, its fascinating history and people of significance who have had both local and global influence.
In terms of activities, most museums have arts and crafts activities for a variety of age groups each weekend. You’ll also find a rolling program of skills workshops throughout the year, such as traditional crafts, photography, den building, archaeology digs, sculpting, painting, potting, theatre skills and creative writing as well as community events.
For tweens and teens, there are regular meetings around the county of young archaeologist clubs, young curators and young exhibition teams.
If your children benefit from quieter learning environments, some museums have flexible opening times too.
