Brookwood American Military Cemetery

Brookwood American Military Cemetery is one of the 26 cemeteries throughout the world established by the American Battle Monuments Commission to commemorate the service of America’s armed forces where they have served since our entry into the First World War.
Every day we commemorate the sacrifices made for our allies and our country. At ABMC every service member and civilian is unique and no death will ever go un-honored.
The ABMC personnel work to thank the service men and women for their sacrifice and service to the nation and to show the world what they have meant and mean to the principle of freedom and to fulfill General Pershing’s promise that “Time will not dim the glory of their deeds.”

Children & Families

We give talks and tours to families about the service members buried or commemorated here and about the duties, obligations and sacrifices that come with being family.

We reach out to our public with profound emotion and hope that they take a piece of this cemetery in their hearts and tell others so that the men and women buried here are remembered and that “Time will not dim the glory of their deeds.” With children we try to build on remembrance and respect in which they can learn personal stories about mutual respect, and share with others the importance of Brookwood.

Schools & Teachers

Our outreach program seeks to identify trends and links between British, European and World history. We try to teach students that the cemetery is a place of memory allowing us to become familiar with the past and to appreciate values, such as liberty, which would not exist without the sacrifice of generations. Part of the education program is to explain the main reason why the Allies had to come here. This can be done on site or by coming to your school.

Students & Young People

Students can learn about “Brothers in Arms”, about friendship between people and nations where in times of war a person may form a strong bond with someone they would probably never have met in peace time showing that war (life) is not bad people on one side and good people on the other, but only good causes and bad causes.

It is an opportunity to teach about the fact that war brings out the worst and the best in people while reaching out about tolerance and understanding and to help them along in developing a critical mind.

Adult & Community

The Brookwood American Cemetery is a symbol and proof that people were willing to die to fight for freedom and to change society. As a result people can reflect on the deep price paid for freedom.

We do monthly tours based upon a selected theme such as Black History Month, Native American Month, Women’s Month . We can vary our talks based upon our audiences needs. We also try to reach out and recognize that many visitors parents, grandparents or great-grandparents served in very difficult times and deserve our respect.
