Byfleet Heritage Centre

Byfleet Heritage Centre is a local history room presenting information on Byfleet Village and the local area. It is located at Byfleet Community Library and is open during library hours. The rotating displays include information boards on Byfleet landmarks such as the Manor House and St Mary’s Church, historical artefacts, maps, and a timeline comparing historical events in Byfleet and England. The Centre is run by Byfleet Heritage Society, who host a drop-in morning on the first Saturday of every month (except January) to display items from our archive and help with any local history queries.

Children & Families

Families can explore history and engineering via a host of interactive exhibits that will engage and excite. With puzzles, traditional brass rubbing, touchscreens plus opportunities to try on historic and modern day uniforms, there’s plenty to spark the imagination.

We reach out to our public with profound emotion and hope that they take a piece of this Cemetery in their hearts and tell others so that the men and women buried here are remembered and that “Time will not dim the glory of their deeds.” With children we try to build on remembrance and respect in which they can learn personal stories about mutual respect, and share with others the importance of Brookwood.

Schools & Teachers

History and Science workshops for all abilities across EYFS, KS1, KS2 and Key Stage 3+. Sessions include Egyptians, pond-dipping, classification, rocks & fossils delivered in a dedicated education space and stunning grounds. Classes up to 35 pupils welcome. We also offer school-based workshops, loan boxes and assemblies.

4. Internationally important Peasant Art collection with original European crafts collected in rebellion to the industrial revolution. Everyday items made beautiful by exquisite carving, bead and paintwork provide insight into lives and rituals of those who created them.

The Museum is a fascinating venue for a club or society outing. Group members can use our map and gallery guides to explore those areas of particular interest or have a short tour highlighting the stories behind a handful of extraordinary objects.

There is free parking for coaches or cars, free admission for the group organiser and the option to book a welcoming cup of tea or coffee on arrival. We can also arrange a simple buffet if you would like to include lunch for your group (due to space constraints, a charge will be made for seating at lunch
