Royal Holloway Picture Gallery

Thomas Holloway was a Victorian entrepreneur and self-made millionaire from his patent ‘cure all’ medicines, pills and ointments. He epitomised the spirit of the age and was one of the great philanthropists of the Victorian age, which included founding Royal Holloway College. Holloway paid well over £80,000 for the 77 paintings which make up the Royal Holloway Collection, equivalent to more than £6 million in today’s terms.
